If more knew Jesus’ message, fewer might resort to violence
This op-ed, published in the Longmont Times-Call on May 14, 2019 and in the Boulder Daily Camera on May 15, 2019 points outs that Jesus wants to fix what is broken inside of us; and if more people heard this message, maybe fewer would be inclined to respond to their brokenness with violence.
School Shootings: What Would Jesus Do?
This op-ed addresses the question of what Jesus might do in response to some of the more recent school shootings. It was published May 29, 2018 in the Longmont, Colorado Times-Call under the title: “What would Jesus do about School Shootings?”
This op-ed asserts that our attempts to keep government free from religion may be contributing to the increasing amount of gun-violence we are seeing in our schools. It was published February 25, 2018 in the Longmont, Colorado Time-Call under the title, “Addressing gun violence with a better understanding of freedom of religion.”
A Christians’ call to action may not be what we think it is
This guest opinion was written in response to a call by another writer for Christians to take back the moral authority of our culture. It supports what I believe Christians’ actual call to action is: to be salt and light in the world in which we live so that people will glorify the One who lives within us. It was published in the Longmont, Colorado Times-Call on August 16, 2016 under the title, “Christians’ Call to Action May Not Be What the Writer Thinks.”
A Lack of moral compass can send us adrift
This editorial was written in response to someone I felt was in error regarding their understanding of what John Adams meant when he wrote, “The government of the United States of America is not in any sense founded on the Christian religion,” and asserts that the teachings of Jesus ought to be play a bigger part in the process we use for making moral decisions, not less. It was published in Boulder, Colorado Daily Camera on August 13, 2015 under the title, “Lack of moral compass can send us adrift.”
