Some Final Thoughts
Use In Classrooms and Small Groups
“Christians: Unpack Your Bags. You’re Here for the Duration!” challenges students to see how the following principles can affect their understanding of prophetic passages discussed in the book, even if they disagree with the book’s conclusion:
- Scripture Interprets Scripture: the concept that the first place to look when trying to make sense of passages in the Bible is to Scripture itself.
- Image Matching: the observation that many prophetic passages are connected internally through the use of common symbols, and how noting this can help identify passages describing the same event.
- Transitive law (if A=B, and B=C, then C=A): how this law can help understand prophetic passages that are primarily symbolic.
- Additive nature of prophecies: how noting that prophecies are generally additive in nature instead of being chronological—often adding to or clarifying something stated earlier—can help in understanding what is prophesied in Revelation.
- Interpreting parables: how parables should be interpreted if grouped together like they are in Matthew 24 and 25.
Students will also be challenged to examine their own views regarding how the end times will unfold, how they arrived at this conclusion, and how this aligns with what the book proposes if they apply the principles the book uses to understand end-time prophecies.
